Tri Delta Philanthropy

The Theta Xi chapter of Delta Delta Delta supports many philanthropic causes throughout the year. While our first and foremost efforts are focused on St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, our national philanthropy, we also take part in many fraternity and community sponsored events, as well.

Tri Delta at USC supports St. Jude in various ways. Nationally, Tri Delta's goal is to raise $15 million in 5 years; therefore we have a lot of work ahead of us! Our largest fundraising event, Delta Dodgeball, takes place each fall. Fraternities and other campus organizations register their teams to go head to head in a day-long dodgeball tournament. We shut down half of 28th Street, where the dodgeball games take place as the teams compete in a double elimination competition. Our members act as captains of each team, hoping to lead their team to victory!

Aside from our fall philanthropic event, Tri Delta also hosts three other fundraisers throughout the year. Each spring, we hold our annual letter-writing campaign to raise money for St. Jude. With the help of our donors, our chapter raised over $23,000 in the first six months of 2009 alone! We also hold a Delta House of Pancakes night where we serve homemade pancakes and waffles in our dining room to those in attendance. This night is a fun get together with friends, classmates and peers as we enjoy sharing a yummy late night snack together. In the fall, Delta Delta Delta also hosts a Casino Night with the help of the boys of Sigma Nu. It is one of our most successful events that brings together Tri Delta girls, Sigma Nu boys and everyone's parents. This year, the event will be held during Trojan Parent's Weekend at Sigma Nu's house.

Our other involvement includes Bunny Buddies, an annual event held together with a neighboring Fraternity. This Easter celebration involves inviting local elementary students over to our sorority house for egg hunts, decorating, and other fun activities and games. We are also proud to announce a new philanthropic relationship with the Downtown Women’s Center of Los Angeles as well as our strong relationship with Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Every year we try to hold a sisterhood event that includes a philanthropic activity for one of these two organizations. This year we made Valentine's Day Cards for CHLA as well as stuffed stockings during the Holiday season for CHLA patients. As well as helping many outside organizations, Tri Delta continues to participate in on-campus philanthropies such as Dance Marathon, Relay for Life, Swim with Mike, and so much more!

St. Jude's

Children's Cancer Charities is the focus of Tri Delta members' philanthropic efforts. The mission of these charities is to help alleviate the suffering of children with cancer. At local, national and international levels, Tri Deltas offer financial and volunteer contributions to the research and treatment of children with cancer.

In November 1999, Tri Delta joined with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital as its national philanthropic partner. With this arrangement, St. Jude assists Tri Delta chapters to plan philanthropy events that will directly benefit the children and subsidize research costs at St. Jude. In September 2002, Tri Delta's Executive Board agreed to a four-year, million dollar endowment for the Patient Teen Room at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. In less than four years, Tri Deltas across the nation raised over $1,000,000 dollars to build a Teen Room at the Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Tri Delta has recently completed their goal of raising funds to name the Patient Care Floor in the new Chili’s Care Center. Tri Delta committed to raise $10 million in ten years for this floor, with each chapter having $62,500 as its goal and this goal was met in the summer of 2010 having raised over $10 million in only 5 years! Tri Delta's newest goal is to raise $15 million in 5 years!

To date, Tri Delta nationally has raised more than $15 million for the hospital. This is made possible by the commitment from more than 180 Tri Delta collegiate chapters and from the support of the Tri Delta Executive Office.

Since 2005, our chapter has raised over $77,000 for St. Jude, and this year alone over $23,000. We are also proud to announce that USC Tri Delta was the first chapter on the West Coast to reach its chapter's goal of $62,500! Currently, our chapter at USC is working hard towards helping Tri Delta nationally raise the $15 million in 5 years!

Theta Xi Events

Delta Dodgeball is our annual day-long competition between campus fraternities and organizations that participate in a Dodgeball tournament benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Half of 28th Street is shut down for us to host this intense competition, with members of Tri Delta as captains for each team.

Sincerely Yours is our annual letter-writing campaign that also benefits St. Jude. At this event, members are able to learn more about the commitment between St. Jude and Tri Delta, as well as meet St. Jude patients. Thanks to all of our generous donors, this event allows our chapter to continue to be one of the top raising Tri Delta chapters for St. Jude.

While all of our chapter members are encouraged to participate in various philanthropic events throughout the year, our chapter as a whole also supports a variety of different community organizations. This year, we continued hosting our annual “Bunny Buddies” event. At this event, kindergarten and first grade students from 32nd Street School are invited to our sorority house to play games, take part in an Easter egg hunt, and other activities. We also held our annual Delta House of Pancakes night, where we serve homemade pancakes and waffles throughout the night right in our own dining room! This event continues to be a fun night for all as we hang out and enjoy our house mom's delicious pancakes and waffles!

Additionally, our chapter has participated and contributed to many other sorority and fraternity-sponsored events. This year, we were able to donate services, participation, and money to the Children’s Hospital LA and the Los Angeles Fire Department. This year, our members also spent time serving meals to the women at the Downtown Women’s Center, a shelter providing apartments, meals, and services to low-income women throughout the year.

Fraternity Philanthropy

Throughout the year, Tri Deltas are always happy to support the many other Greek-sponsored fraternity and sorority events across the row. This year, Tri Delta participated in multiple philanthropy events, including Sigma Chi’s Derby Days, ZBT’s Jungle Ball, Kappa Sigma’s Rodeo Days, and Beta Theta Pi’s Beta Beach to name a few. We always love showing our support for the Fraternities and the organizations they are supporting, through our participation in their day-long events. We always have a blast as we try to win!
